Brushing Teeth
Teeth are brushed daily after breakfast and before going to bed in the evening. It can also be brushed at noon. After eating, the pH value in the mouth decreases. This means the mouth is a more acidic environment. The pH value returns to normal approximately 40 minutes after meals. Therefore, brushing your teeth 40 minutes after meals will help you cause less damage to your teeth.
You can damage both your teeth and gums with wrong brushing techniques while brushing your teeth. That’s why teeth need to be brushed with the right technique, strength and time. Step-by-step methods to follow while brushing your teeth:
1-Apply a pea-sized amount of paste to your toothbrush and open your mouth.
2-Starting from the outside, place your brush horizontally at the junction of your gums and teeth, then rotate your brush approximately 45 degrees to face your gums.
3-In this position, brush the tooth surface by making small circular movements and vibrations, counting to 6.
4-When counting is finished, move to a side group and clean the entire surface in this way.
5-When the outer surfaces are finished, place your brush on the inside and sweep from your gums to your teeth 6 times.
6-When you’re done sweeping, move on to a side group.
7-Do all of these operations separately for the lower and upper jaws.
8-When the outer and inner surfaces are finished, brush them back and forth.
9-When the brushing process is completed, you should feel the tooth surfaces smooth. If you feel roughness, repeat sweeping or circular motions. Do not press your teeth with your toothbrush while performing these procedures. Brush with the pressure of the toothbrush bristles.
10-After brushing in the evening, remove food debris from between your teeth with dental floss. You can also use dental floss in the morning and at lunchtime. Tear off an appropriate amount of dental floss and wrap it around the middle fingers of both hands. Stretch with index fingers or thumbs. Place it tensely between two teeth, gently get under the gum, and pull it up by leaning it against a tooth. Do the same process again and this time lean it against the other tooth and pull it up. Do not use the dental floss by pulling it as if you were playing a violin. Do not force it towards your gums.
Don’t forget to change your toothbrush every 3 months.
